Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about our online high school? Here's how it works, who it's for, and what makes our approach different: enrolment, daily life, and how we support each student.

Who can join your online high school?

We welcome students from all walks of life across New Zealand, whether you need more flexibility, a supportive environment, or a fresh start. If you're looking for a new way to learn, you belong here.

How does virtual learning happen?

Students are part of a vibrant learning community, immersed in the positive and safe culture of our school. They learn in small classes, with peers, through our online platform with subject specialist teachers using live lessons, live lectures, and interactive digital resources. The learning is accessible from anywhere in New Zealand. Each student follows a structured timetable with real-time classes led by qualified teachers, plus independent work time.

How does the school funding work?

As a Charter School, Aotearoa Infinite Academy receives per-student government funding similar to state schools, which covers operational costs, teacher salaries, and educational resources. Families pay no tuition fees and all core learning materials and digital platform access are provided at no cost to enrolled students.

What year levels do you offer?

We are starting in 2026 with Years 9-12, and Years 9-13 from 2027 onwards.

What curriculum do students follow?

We offer Pearson Edexcel for Years 9-11 with progression into NCEA Level 2 and 3 in the final two years of high school. Our curriculum blends local and global content with a broad range of subjects on offer.

How big are your classes?

We aim to keep our group classes small, averaging 20 students. Students will have one lecture and three small group classes per week in their subjects. The lecture style class is larger, as information, skills and knowledge is shared with learners to front-load the learning and activities that will then be followed up in the smaller group classes. This approach ensures all students are seen and heard, and all learners have the information, vocabulary and knowledge they need to be able to grapple with learning activities.

How do you support wellbeing?

Every student is assigned a dedicated pastoral care teacher who monitors academic progress and social, emotional, physical and intellectual wellbeing through regular check-ins. We have active Deans who support students holistically, delivering our bespoke Learning for Life programme, as well as facilitating our assemblies and providing student leadership opportunities. Our school counsellors provide confidential individual live video sessions, and we facilitate peer connection through virtual clubs and social events. Parents receive guidance on supporting online learners, and we maintain open communication channels to address concerns promptly. Safeguarding is a critical part of who we are, and we believe this is the responsibility of all stakeholders.
